Halo 3 is a popular video game for the Xbox 360 video game system that was released in 2007 all around the world. It ended what is called the original Halo trilogy. The first game helped put Xbox on the video game map.
How popular was Halo 3? It sold 4.2 million copies in the first week it was available, grossing over $300 million. Over 1 million people played Halo 3 on Xbox live in just the first 24 hours. More than 8 million people bought the game, making it #1 in sales for 2007.
With Halo 3 and the Halo series consoles finally were taken seriously for FPS games. Before Halo consoles were an also ran in the first person world – PCs were the place t be. Halo on Xbox 360 created its own huge following, including communities online to play the game in leagues and competitions, as well as in clans and teams. Now consoles were a serious consideration for FPS fans, and Halo 3 was no different.
Halo 3 has a story that focuses on an interstellar war taking place in the 26th century – mankind takes on a conglomeration of alien races called the Covenant. The player takes on the persona of the Master Chief, a super soldier enhanced with cybernetics and helped by a group of marines and an alien race known as the Elites. For the first time, with Halo 3, people could make changes to maps – it became one of the most popular features in the game.
Currently the maker of the Halo series and Halo 3 is working on a prequel Called Halo 3: ODST, which stands for orbital drop shock trooper. This will be the first game in the Halo series in which the player does not play as Master Chief. It’s a little bit like the upcoming Terminator 4 movie, which for the first time will not include Arnold Schwarzenegger playing a Terminator.
Halo 3 is a good reason to buy an Xbox 360. It really is a great deal of fun
